The Role

Job Summary:


We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic English or Maths Teacher to join our successful school. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering English and/or Maths qualifications to learner with Special Educational (SEND) and Mental Health Needs. This role is ideal for a passionate individual who can foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment, promoting engagement, wellbeing, progress, and achievement among our learners. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality English and/or Maths lessons in line with a planned scheme of work tailored to the needs of SEND learners.
  • Follow curriculum guidance and direction provided by the English and/or Maths Lead.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet a wide range of learner needs.
  • Assess and monitor learner progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and adapting lessons as required.
  • Track and report learner progress and attainment to the subject Lead.
  • Deliver cover lessons as required to ensure continuity of learning.
  • Develop and contribute to individualised learning plans and resources that support learner understanding and proficiency in English and/or Maths.
  • Deliver lessons that reflect the school’s teaching approach, including ‘The Inclusion Way’ pedagogy and effective use of adaptive teaching and scaffolding strategies.
  • Support whole school priorities such as the reading and cultural capital programmes.
  • Build positive, nurturing relationships with learners to support social, emotional, and academic needs, using the PACE approach and ‘The Inclusion Way’.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress, attendance, and achievements.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, support staff, and external professionals to ensure learners receive holistic support.
  • Participate in continuous professional development to remain up-to-date with best practices in SEND and subject-specific pedagogy.
  • Communicate effectively with learners, parents/carers regarding learner progress and concerns.
  • Contribute to the development and review of the English and/or Maths curriculum and associated resources.
  • Support learners to achieve personal, academic, and EHCP (Education, Health, and Care Plan) targets, including Boxall and academic targets.
  • Promote learner independence and high expectations through carefully planned lessons.
  • Ensure lessons are delivered in accordance with departmental schemes of work, school policies, and ‘The Inclusion Way’.
  • Work as part of a team to embed strategies that support mental health and SEND through a whole-school approach.
  • Maintain up-to-date registers and monitor academic and SEMH progress.
  • Encourage active learner engagement and regular review of targets and progress.
  • Support and participate in school trips as required.
  • Act as, or support, a Form Tutor, including completing Boxall profiles termly and maintaining regular communication with parents/carers.
  • Embody the Teacher’s Standards and Inclusion’s ‘Golden Threads’.
  • Support other subject areas as needed and contribute to the wider school community, including work with the Engagement Team.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as directed by the Headteacher
